Gillette’s New Razor Is Game Changing

Gillette contacted EFTM recently to take part in an experiment, not to tell us about a new product, what we learned during the experiment though was a story in itself.

Gillette sent us a bluetooth enabled razor. We installed an app on our phone, it found the razor and we started to shave as normal. At the end of our shave the smartphone prompted us with a question:

How many strokes do you think it took to complete your shave?

Now, we put 80 strokes thinking somewhat carefully about how long each stroke is and the size of the shaving area. The app returned a very surprising number… the razor had been counting while we were shaving and it returned a result of 253 strokes. Mind blown. All those little strokes, all the times we go over and over the same spot, it all adds up.

Then we were contacted by Gillette, they received the data of how much we stroke to get the job done. Now enters their newest product. As blokes we tend to stroke more than necessary, we go over the same spot regularly. According to recent studies carried out by Gillette, most guys take roughly 170 strokes every time they shave, and 120 of these are re-strokes over the same area of the face after the initial strokes have wiped away most of the protective shave gel.

What this means though is that on the first stroke we remove the shaving cream and the skin protection is relatively gone. So each stroke after that is skin on blades, raw. This causes irritation and regardless of how good your after shave balm is, you may end up with a rash.

The new Gillette Fusion ProShield adds something we’ve seen on a ladies razor TV commercial. Skin lubrication layers before the razor and after the razor. So pre-stroke your skin is making contact with a soothing lubrication layer, then hitting the blades and another soothing lubrication layer on the exit.

The head of the Fusion ProShield can also pivot so you’ll be able to meet the contours of your face much easier too.

The bluetooth feature in the razor we used at the start is not a technology found in the Fusion ProShield however we won’t be surprised to see it arrive in a future product, the internet of things is connecting everything to our phones! For now, just know that Gillette is more focused on a better shave, as they should be.
