It’s not just Phones Google has launched in San Francisco – three other new products are coming to Australia, and they’ll be great for all phone users, not just Pixel 2.
As if to take a leaf from Apple’s book, Google has decided you should be able to get headphones that pair perfectly with your phone. Pixel users will love these, but they’ll be great for any smartphone too.
Wireless connection to your phone (The Pixel has no headphone jack), but with a wire from ear to ear, there’s a touchpad on the right ear which you can use to pause, play or adjust volume.
Google assistant is also there at a tap, as is Google Translate – Google say “owners will enjoy a real-time translation experience with Pixel Buds and Google Translate. Your earphones hear you and your Pixel’s speaker will play the translation in another language. When the other person speaks, you’ll hear the translation right in your ear”.
Now if that works as described, this is a game changer – big time.
Google has taken Apple’s lead with a tap to pair system on the phone, and the ear buds will get you 5 hours of listening time in just one charge, and the case holds enough charge to get 24 hours of listening time.
They’ll set you back $249 and will be available at Telstra and JB Hi-Fi stores
At $79 this is a great priced personal assistant speaker. Frankly, I don’t know why you’d bother with the big brother Google Home at $199 if you just want voice commands over your smart home or calendar.
It’s also a speaker, so music can flow, but lets be honest, if you want a speaker check out Sony, JBL or Sonos‘ offerings.
Great way to get your smart home talking.
Yeah, if you’re into it, there’s new colours, better performance – but really, VR? Are we still doing this? AR is the future folks, and Google is getting into that game.
That said, if you love your VR activities and gaming, there’s more titles and the new Daydream View carries forward the lovely feeling of the fabric but in new colours.
