The Audi Virtual Cockpit is the coup de grâce to all other instrument clusters. It turns what the driver sees behind the steering wheel into a stunning display of Google Earth mapping. It also provides for a very practical, user friendly interface. Customisable and unique readouts are available when switching from eco mode to sports mode, with the screen transforming from a serene theme to an aggressive one. It allows access to reams of information within your field of vision usually reserved for centrally mounted displays. The Audi TT uses the display exclusively, with no second screen in sight for example.
In other Audi vehicles it’s joined by the usual MMI controller and tablet style screen. But as Trevor Long demonstrates it’s certainly a worthy winner of the 2017 EFTM Best in Car Tech Award.
