ELECTRON WHEEL

Is it your plan to get rid of some of the extra flab in 2018? Have you thought about getting a bike to pedal away the extra kilos? But are you like me and couldn’t be bothered to physically push that new shiny bike around under your complete own steam? Well how about an e-bike. Sounds expensive, but here at CES I may have found you a solution. The Electron Wheel turns your existing bike into an electric two-wheeled flyer.

This is simply a replacement front rim, the hub combines an electric motor, 36v lithium battery and some sensors. The makers claim it takes a mere 30 seconds to assemble, has a maximum speed of 25km/h and a range close to 90km. Charging takes around five hours.

The wheel will fit most bikes that have typical rim brake callipers. If you know how to change your bikes tyre, then swapping out your own wheel with this should come naturally. You will need a smartphone to pair via Bluetooth with the onboard sensors and Electron app. It keeps track of speed, battery life and even includes mapping.

As with all bikes, you still pedal, but obviously with extra electric assistance. In fact, the system includes Active Hill Assist that will detect slopes and give you that extra push. I very much like the sound of that!

There’s no word on Aussie availability yet but here in the U.S.A. it retails for around $799.00. So, if you’re looking for all the benefits of a full-blown e-bike, but only want to purchase just a wheel, the Electron Wheel may be for you.
