Email from Brian in Marsden Park, NSW.
Brian says “I’m finding that occasionally my pcs and phones become disconnected from my router modem, it’s pretty new, but it’s the one I bought when I connected to the NBN. I’m on FTTP, connected with Aussie Broadband (after listening to your show).
Do you recommend upgrading to a new modem? If so, do you have any recommendations for a wifi router modem to suit a very large single level house?
Thanks for your help!”
Trev says:
Lots to check first Brian before you buy anything new. Firstly, focus on the modem. Get a PC connected to the modem via ethernet. When your devices are disconnected is that PC ok and online? That means the “modem” is connected to the internet, it’s likely to be an issue with the WiFi on the modem.
Sadly, most ISP supplied modems provide a fantastic connection to the internet – but they struggle with WiFi in the standard Aussie home.
My recommendation if you confirm that the connection is OK and the modem therefore is doing it’s job, is to invest in a Netgear Orbi, or Google WiFi system – it will change your world!
And remember, you don’t need to replace the modem you have, just plug in the Google or Orbi system and your new network will cover the home.
If the modem appears at fault, get Aussie Broadband to shoot a new one out to you ASAP!
