Massive Subaru Recall

If you own a Subaru it may be worth paying attention to this recall. 40,000 cars have been flagged as having potentially faulty electronic park brakes. Models on the list include the Outback, Liberty sedan and wagon variants with model years spanning 2010 and 2014.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission notice says “if the electronic parking brake circuit board fractures, the warning light will illuminate and the EPB cannot be applied or released. If this happens, the vehicle may be in breach of the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) for motor vehicles”.

“If the electronic parking brake cannot be applied or released, it can result in an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants and other road users,” the notice says.

Owners should keep an eye on the mail as Subaru seek to contact affected owners. Vehicles under the recall should be taken immediately to a Subaru dealer for free rectification work.
