Porsche Mission E concept car in Sydney.

Sometime ago Porsche announced that its first electric sportscar would be known as the Taycan. But today in Sydney at a special pop-up ‘Future Lab’ Porsche Australia showcased the “Mission E” a concept car that forms part of a study into the future of electric mobility.

The ‘Future Lab’ at Barangaroo is giving visitors a first look at the brand’s e-performance technology ahead of the Taycan arriving in 2020. The fully electric Taycan will differ greatly to the displayed concept car but will punch out 440 kW and accelerate to 100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds.

It also allows for multiple dashes to the ton thanks to a continuous power level, a first for electric cars. Porsche says the vehicle’s maximum range is over 500 km.

“Porsche is very excited to give Australians the first close-up look at the ‘Mission E’ concept study,”  said Porsche Cars Australia Director of Marketing and Motorsport, Toni Andreevski.

“The Porsche Future Lab, which is open to the general public, shows Australians that the future of mobility is one step closer with the arrival of the first purely electric Porsche, the new Taycan, in 2020.”

Get down there and check it out until October 21
