Audiofly AF100W MK2 Review: They’ve made something great even better

Almost exactly one year ago I published my review of the Audiofly AF100W wireless headphones.  Perth based Audiofly are making some cracker headphones, the AF100W’s being their top end consumer product.  This year, version two – or Mark 2.

I had two very basic criticisms of the first model last year – battery life, and the two modules on the cord.  Now, I’d like to take full credit for the changes they’ve made – so I will, because the two key improvements are play time and the cable system.

Instead of two modules – one on each side, there’s now just one module close to the left ear.  This module has all the controls, plus battery and the charging connection.  They’ve also revamped the cable management to allow you to make the whole cable tighter between your ears around the back of your head.

Battery life – while I struggled to get the five hours listed, this year, the eight hours claimed are spot on, if not unders.  I flew with these to the US and had no issues.  There is very little warning other than a single “Low Battery” alert, but trust me, charge them up, and you will get a solid burst.

Speaking of charging, that’s an interesting one too.  I couldn’t work it out.  At all.  Turns out, after much frustration, the charging connector is actually a separate little “dock” that you’ll find in the box under the foam packaging.  This dock connects magnetically to the headphone module and is powered by a MicroUSB cable.

So, the battery life is great, cable management improved, the sound is just as sensational and when you throw on the memory foam tips the fit is snug and offers some great noise isolation.

These things are the bees knees.  Such a great rich and full sound, amazingly comfortable when out and about, mowing the lawns or sleeping on a plane – and at $189.99 – great value.

If last year’s were 4.5 stars, this year they are 5 stars – right out of the park.
