The great Matthew McConaughey and Wild Turkey have teamed up to launch a special, small batch Kentucky bourbon. Called the Longbrand, it has been inspired by McConaughey’s Kentucky and Texas roots.
To be read in Matthew McConaughey’s raspy American voice “Longbranch, in it’s simplest form, is an extended hand, inviting a friend into your family”. The product itself , McConaughey and Master Distiller, Eddie Russell, was crafted through countless hours, sharing notes to perfect a process that combines two seperate charcoal filtration methods which is said to give Longbranch a smooth and full finish.
Longbranch is made with eight-year old Wild Turkey bourbon, it has a bright gold colour and the aroma is said to be a balanced blend of vanilla and spice. We actually picked up on those notes during our tasting. In the mouth, Wild Turkey suggest you should experience flavours of caramel, pear and hints of citrus. The experience of a smoky, buttery smooth finish with notes of a gentle pepper and oak too.
Both Eddie and Matthew enjoy the Longbranch served neat, just the liquid, no ice, which is how we experienced it. Very easy to prepare!
Finally, a piece of trivia; the name Wild Turkey came about back in 1940 when distillery exec Thomas McCarthey took a few warehouse samples on a Wild Turkey hunting trip with a group of friends. A year later, his mates were asking him for “some of that Wild Turkey whiskey”.
You’ll find the Wild Turkey Longbranch at your local liquor store for around the $55 mark, while they last.
