LG and Microsoft Join Forces

As we heard at LG’s keynote in Las Vegas the Korean giant has plans to enter the world of autonomous vehicles. But it has now been announced that Microsoft will also join the party, helping to fuel the AI behind the tech.

LG’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Driver-Status Monitoring Camera (DSM) and Multi-Purpose Front Camera products will benefit from Microsoft’s know-how. Plus, the Azure Data Box service has the ability to capture information while driving to help the self-driving software learn on the run.

The cloud-based service will allow for road and traffic patterns in cities to be mapped in just minutes as opposed to a full day by other self-driving systems. Azure will aid AI self-driving software to recognise complicated patterns displayed by drivers plus distinguish between pedestrians and other objects. Essentially it will make sensors and cameras already found in cars significantly smarter.

Azure also has a voice-enabled Virtual Assistant Solution Accelerator enhanced by AI.

“Our expectation is that the combination of Microsoft’s advanced cloud infrastructure with LG’s fast-growing automotive components business will accelerate the self-driving auto industry as a whole,” said Kim Jin-yong, president of LG’s Vehicle Component Solutions Company. “We’re confident that the combination of Microsoft and LG technologies will create a new benchmark in autonomous auto AI.”

“Together LG and Microsoft can help shape the future of transportation,” said Sanjay Ravi, general manager, automotive industry at Microsoft. “Working together, we can empower automakers to deliver differentiated mobility experiences, create new services and revenue opportunities, and to build safer, more intelligent and more sustainable vehicles.”
