See The Invisible With Nissan

At CES 2019 next week Nissan will unveil another futuristic concept aimed at the driver of the autonomous car of the future. Last year the company revealed Brain-to-Vehicle technology that essentially was a way to data mine the brain and overlay that information with Artificial Intelligence. Essentially providing a kind of bionic connection between person and car.

Now Nissan has announced plans to help drivers “see the invisible” by merging real and virtual worlds. The tech is known as I2V and has been created under Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility banner.

The concept may be a little difficult for some to grasp, but the idea is for drivers to wear a set of Augmented Reality (AR) goggles while driving. Aside from the actual world, the plan is to project information from the cars sensors, 360-degree mapping and data from the cloud.

Objects that are even behind buildings could be shown in 3D via AR. In a virtual world, Avatars would appear visible inside the car, you could literally call upon a friend to keep you company for example. Other prospects include turning a rainy day into a sunny day, via a projection inside the vehicle.

We will see all this in action via a demonstration at the Nissan exhibit through an interactive, three-dimensional immersion display.

By helping you see the invisible, I2V enhances your confidence and makes driving more enjoyable,” said Tetsuro Ueda, an expert leader at the Nissan Research Centre.

“The interactive features create an experience that’s tailored to your interests and driving style so that anyone can enjoy using it in their own way.”

The term for this science function type technology is Metaverse. It’s a place that is kind of like the internet, or cyberspace. But in a far more connected and deeper form. We will find out more when we have crack at it, but it’s the most advanced idea I’ve heard with it comes to the future of motoring so far!
