Samsung’s MicroLED is their next big thing – and it’s big. 219 inches big.

Twelve months ago almost to the day Samsung surprised many with their announcement of “The Wall”. A TV so big it could only have that name.

This year at CES Samsung is doubling down and expanding things to make it clear that the underlying technology of “The Wall” is here to stay.

Micro LED displays, made up of as many modular panels as you choose can be made to fit any shape, but at a consumer level they’ve showcased a 219 inch version smashing last year’s out of the park, as well as a more suitable-for-the-loungeroom 75 inch version too.

“For decades, Samsung has lead the way in next-generation display innovation,” said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our Micro LED technology is at the forefront of the next screen revolution with intelligent, customizable displays that excel in every performance category. Samsung Micro LED has no boundaries, only endless possibilities.”

Each individual pixel emits its own light, producing a bright colour, but also the OLED matching “zero light” black – that is – a black black.

Samsung say this delivers an “unmatched picture quality that surpasses any display technology currently available on the market.” A big call.

Critically, it’s also completely border free and bezel free, so it’s a true edge to edge screen.

For Australia, well, we’ll have to wait and see what Harvey Norman thinks when they go behind the curtain at Samsung’s stand here at CES. Word from Samsung Australia is “Samsung Australia is currently assessing when to launch this product locally. More details will be shared regarding local availability at a later date.”

We wait.
