Logitech MX Vertical Mouse review: Looks strange but it’s bloody comfortable

The humble mouse, hasn’t changed much at all has it? Sure the mouse ball has been replaced by lasers and strange lights to make it work meaning no more removing dust and lint from the rollers. But what else has changed?

There’s more buttons on the advanced mice you can buy today, and there are those trackball ones where the physical device doesn’t move just the ball does – but lets come back to the average mouse. Same shit different smell.

And the problem? Ergonomics. Rest your hands on the desk, dangle them beside your body – they don’t twist around in the way you force your hands to twist when using a mouse.

Enter the Logitech MX Vertical. This mouse is all pretty normal, until you realise it’s on a 57 degree angle so your hand is in a much more natural position.

Strange as heck the first time you use it, but by the end of the day, you’re comfortable – literally.

“We know that many computer users experience discomfort or pain in their hand,  forearm and in their wrists,” said Delphine Donne-Crock, general manager of creativity and productivity at Logitech. “To address this, we’ve created our most advanced ergonomic mouse yet, MX VERTICAL, designed with an innovative natural handshake position. The unique angle is optimized for an ergonomic posture and reduces both wrist pressure and forearm strain. With MX VERTICAL, you can maximise your productivity in comfort.”

This 57 degree angle reduces muscular activity by up to 10 percent compared to a standard mouse position – yet it doesn’t impact on performance.

At $169.95 it’s not cheap, but what price a sore wrist?

For me, its a winner, though as a user primarily of the Logitech MX Master series mouse it lacks functionality like the scroll wheel for the left and right movement (it has an up/down scroll wheel) and the additional programmable buttons on the thumb and top aren’t really in an easy to use location so I haven’t found myself using them much – but who ever does?!
