Oppo goes 5G – Reno 5G hits Australia for $1,499 including bonus headphones

As the 5G race ramps up – and it’s literally just getting out of the blocks, we’ve got our second 5G handset on the Telstra network with Oppo announcing the Reno 5G will be available to pre-order from tomorrow for $1,499.

The 5G Reno device is part of the “Reno series” which becomes Oppo’s flagship device range primarily due to the outstanding camera technology and the inclusion of 5G.

Speaking at the launch tonight, OPPO’s Aussie boss Michael Tran said: “We’re excited and proud to be bringing Reno to Australia. 5G has been a hot topic for a long time now. The wait is over. 5G is here.”

“Reno is transforming what is possible with a smartphone, whilst at the same time making innovation accessible to all. We’ve introduced state-of-the-art camera tech, game changing processing power and an audio-visual experience second to none. What’s more, with our Reno 5G variant, customers can be at the forefront of a new era of smartphone connectivity available through our carrier partners,” added Tran.

Under the hood, both Reno devices (the 5G and 4G versions) feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor.

When it comes to camera, this is a big deal for Oppo – the rear camera is an array much like the Huawei P30 Pro with a telescopic like lens powering the 10 times “Hybrid zoom”.

Around the front there’s no visible “selfie” camera – instead, when needed there’s a pop up camera that snaps out of the top in 0.8 seconds and goes down at the same speed smoothly and silently.

The fingerprint scanner is underneath the screen with that technology improved to be 28% faster.

Both devices come in two colours – Ocean Green and Jet Black.

The Reno 5G will sell for $1,499 at Telstra and JB Hi-Fi – with a bonus set of Bose QC 35 headphones included in pre-orders. The device goes on sale on June 11th, with purchases then coming with a set of Bose SoundSport Free earphones (while stocks last).

If you don’t need 5G – the Reno 10x Zoom (4G) will be on sale June 11 for $1,199 and also comes with SoundSport Free headphones from Bose.

In terms of speed – this thing has what it takes – in testing at Telstra’s Sydney HQ tonight it almost hit 2Gbps!

I mean – WOW!
