Sony 200-600 f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Review – See the impossible

Photography boffins take note, this is an epic bit of kit. Plane spotters will be keen to see how this unit performs.

EFTM Man Cave OG Mathew Wyres was lucky enough to get a stunner of a lens – the 200-600 F5.6-6.3 to test on his A9 – some of his shots got our attention, so we asked him for his thoughts.

Here is what Mat says:

The Sony 200-600 f5.6-6.3 is the latest super telephoto zoom lens for the Sony E-Mount system.

It weighs in at 2115g and can be handheld with ease, however I recommend using a monopod or tripod if used for long periods of time. The 200-600 is a very sharp lens and offers high resolution throughout the zoom range.

If 600mm isn’t enough reach for you, then you can always attach a teleconverter (sold separately).

Attach a 1.4x teleconverter and you can shoot with a maximum focal length of 840mm, but if that’s not enough distance for you then attach a 2x teleconverter and the maximum focal length is a massive 1200mm.

This lens has an internal zoom mechanism, which mean that the length of the lens does not change while zooming.

After using this this lens while doing some plane spotting, Im very impressed with its capabilities. It is perfect for aviation and wildlife photography  or anywhere you need a long focal distance.

The Sony 200-600 f5.6-6.3 G OSS is priced at $3249.00 and is available now at sony.com.au
