Insta360 launches ONE R Adaptive Action Cam in partnership with Leica offering interchangeable lenses

Insta360 has today announced a new model of their innovative action cams, along with a new partnership with lens maker Leica. The One R adaptive action camera offers users a choice of 360-degree, standard 4K and wide-angle simply by changing the lens.

The Insta360 ONE R 1-Inch Edition module has been co-engineered with Leica as part of their new partnership to achieve ‘image quality and dynamic range never before seen in an action cam’. The 1-inch sensor is behind a 5.3K wide-angle lens and can be instantly swapped for a dual-lens setup to go full 360-degree.

The mods are pretty decent:
Dual-Lens 360 Mod: This Mod supports 5.7K capture on two lenses that cover every direction at once. It enables a real-time 360-degree preview on ONE R’s touchscreen, while innovations like Color Plus, HDR video and Night Shot achieve the best color accuracy and low-light performance in any consumer 360 camera.

4K Wide Angle Mod: Ready for 4K@60fps, this Mod captures crisp, vibrant, stabilized action and supports up to 8x slow mo. Its reversible design lets you flip the touchscreen from back to front in a snap — perfect for getting real-time feedback when filming yourself.

1-Inch Wide Angle Mod co-engineered with Leica: This Mod achieves a level of quality never before seen in an action cam. The 1-Inch Wide Angle Mod uses a best-in-class 1-inch sensor to capture brilliant 5.3K video and 19MP photos even in complex lighting conditions. Premium performance in a device that’s ready to go anywhere — the 1-Inch Wide Angle Mod is a game-changer

The range of mods don’t stop at the lenses though, with Insta360 also pointing out their Battery Base can be swapped out as well for a Boosted Battery Base one to double your fun. There’s also an Aerial Mod, which can render supported drones completely invisible, allowing them to capture an unobstructed, airborne 360-degree view.

As well as the new hardware, Insta360 are also introducing new features to their app.

Auto Frame will do away with the issue of 360-degree videos having multiple framing options with Insta360’s computer vision algorithm automatically analysing your footage to find the most interesting moments and angles. The app will show you it’s recommendations, but of course you as the creator have the final say, but this could be a game changer.

Also being introduced is a new pose-detection algorithm that lets you easily identify and pull every frame that matches the pose. Astrophotography lovers will enjoy the new Starlapse mode which automatically calibrates exposure settings to capture stunning time-lapses of the night sky — just pick a time and a place and hit record.

There are several bundles available with the Insta360 ONE R 4K Edition including a 4K Wide Angle Mod for $299.99 USD, creators can also look at the Dual-Lens 360 Mod and 4K Wide Angle Mod which will sell for $479.99 USD, or the Insta360 ONE R 1-Inch Edition which comes with the 1-Inch Wide Angle Mod co-engineered with Leica, and will sell for $549.99 USD.
