Dyson sets out to straighten with an all-new product: the Dyson Corrale hair straightener

We knew them as a Vacuum company, then their hand-dryers started appearing everywhere, but in 2016 they took us all by surprise with their Hair Dryer the Supersonic. Today, another product to sit alongside the Supersonic, the Corrale – a straightener.

Lock down the credit card boys, your wife is heading to the shops as you read this. If not, trust me, this will be on her Mother’s Day list and you’re not going to be able to say no.

Of course, being a Dyson it has to be the first at something – and in this case it has “flexing plate technology” which is a microhinged plate able to flex to shape and gather hair, because the strands pass through aligned – there’s less reliance on heat, and therefore less damage to hair.

Makes sense. I think.

But it’s also cordless.

Here’s how James Dyson, Founder and Chief Engineer at Dyson – THE MAN himself describes it:

“Since we first started developing the Dyson SupersonicTM hair dryer, we have continued to explore the science of style, seeking to understand what makes hair smooth, shiny and glossy, and what makes it dull, damaged and lifeless. We have been worried about the style results and heat damage from flat plate straighteners.

Flat hair irons apply tension and heat only on the thickest part of the hair tress, the strands at the edges are not clamped, leaving them slack, unheated and leaving flyaways. It requires multiple passes on the same section of hair tress to give an even look, by which time excess heat may have caused reduced strength and less gloss.

We discovered that if the plates could conform to the precise profile of the tress, then with each pass we could apply the correct tension to all the hair strands. This means that we get an enhanced style and without excessive heat damage. We simply do not need the heat that others apply.

We engineered unique flexing plates of magnesium copper, wire eroded to a precise accuracy of 65 microns to adapt to the shape of the hair tress. The copper plates wrap around the tress, applying even heat and tension to all the hair strands, keeping them aligned. The Dyson CorraleTM straightener elevates styling results, while dramatically reducing the heat damage on hair.”

You got that?

The Dyson Corrale straightener has three precise heat settings – 165°C, 185°C and 210°C, allowing you to set the straightener to suit your exact hair style.

You’ll get 30 minutes cord-free usage, and it recharges in the dock in just 70 minutes. If you need more use time – you can attach the magnetic charging cable for longer “styling sessions”

The Dyson Corrale goes on sale at Dyson online and their Demo store in Sydney’s QVB on 24th April, and from a range of other retailers like David Jones, Myer, Sephora and more on 1 May – will set you back $699.
