Huawei P40 Pro nabs top DxOMark scores for front and rear cameras

Huawei recently announced their new P40 series phones with ‘Visionary Photography’, and while it’s an aspirational slogan there’s also some very impressive tech behind it – and now DxOMark have awarded the P40 Pro their best score yet.

The DxOMark crown for top score for rear camera was previously jointly shared by the Oppo Find X2 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, however Huawei has bested both in their DxOMark score taking outright top spot with a score of 128. They also picked up the top marks for the selfie camera with a record score of 103 – besting their own phone, the Huawei Nova 6 5G, for first place.

DxOMark lists the combination of sensor and lenses across the P40 Pro rear camera island as the reason for the phone’s ‘impeccable performance across all sub-categories’, calling out the ‘very wide dynamic range and class-leading texture/noise balance’.

The phone also hit very well in the selfie category. Huawei went with a double wide punch hole ‘notch’ in the display which allowed them to include a secondary infrared (IR) camera for depth sensing, which Huawei have put to great use with improved Bokeh effects.

Huawei also performed well with the Video mode on the P40 Pro, the Cine modes offering more video options with the phone. A score of 105 for video gives it the best score by 1, with DxOMark impressed with the autofocus and phase detection.

Huawei now has the top spot on the DxOMark listings, but it’s not over yet with the P40 Pro+ phone still to hit the market at some stage in the near future.
