Google will announce new Android 11 features and beta with a ‘Launch Show’ on June 3rd

The yearly Google I/O Developer conference was unfortunately cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but Google still needs to show off the new features coming up in Android 11, as well as launch the public beta. So, instead of doing it on-stage at a keynote, they’re doing it online with a ‘Beta Launch Show’ on June 3rd.

The Android 11: the Beta Launch Show was announced on the Android Developer website, and comes with a snazzy teaser trailer as well.

The show will be hosted by Dave Burke, VP Engineering Android, as well as Stephanie Cuthbertson, Senior Director of Product Management. Together with other Android experts the pair will take part in a Q&A session after the show. The team will be answering questions posed on social media with the #AskAndroid hashtag, so if you have questions, Tweet them.

The show will see the unveiling of ‘new features packed inside the next release of Android – which will simply be known as Android 11 after Google decided to stop naming their updates after tasty treats.

We’re still expecting the full release of Android 11 in around Q3, possibly in August, just prior to the annual Made by Google hardware event which will see the launch of the Pixel 5 and more around October. 

The Android 11 Beta was supposed to launch this month at Google I/O after three developer previews, however the Coronavirus pandemic has pushed things back and Google launched a fourth developer preview alongside this announcement. You’ll be able to access the Android Beta easily with an Over-The-Air (OTA) update delivered to your Pixel phone once you sign up – when it’s announced obviously – on the Android Beta website.

The Android 11: the Beta Launch Show will be live-streamed on the Android Developers YouTube page at 8 a.m. PT on June 3 – that’s Thursday, June 4 at 1:00 am for those of us playing back here at home. You can sign up for more info on Android 11 at the developer.android.com/android11 website.
