BMW adds remote start to a range of models, warm that interior up before you get in.

On a hot summer’s day you want your cars interior cooled down before you get going. On a cold winter’s day, you want it warmed up when you get in.

Like many other car companies, BMW is moving to a connected car, allowing you to start that engine remotely either using your smartphone or the BMW key.

The feature will be a factory option on a range of models manufactured from July and August 2020, and can be added to several existing models via an over-the-air software upgrade.

Debuting on the upcoming 4 series and 5 series models – depending on the equipment level of the car you can also control seat-heating, seat cooling and steering wheel heating.

The feature will be available on the 3 Series Sedan range, 4 Series Coupé range, 520i, 530i, M550i and M5 Competition along with the Z4 Roadster range manufactured from July 2020.

Additionally on the X5 xDrive40i, X5 M50i and X5M Competition as well as the X6 xDrive40i, X6 M50i and X6M Competition from August 2020 production month.

Models already in market or on sale may be eligible for the upgrade from the BMW Connected Drive Store.

Those include the 320i, 330i, M340i, 740i, 740Li, 840i, Z4 sDrive20i, Z4 sDrive30i and Z4 M40i produced from July 2019.

Also the X5 xDrive40i & X6 xDrive40i from August 2019 and the BMW 4 Series coupe, 520i, and 530i from July 2020.

BMW expects to introduce the feature into more models by the last quarter of this year.
