Oakley launches new Kokoro collection originally intended for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

What a strange world we are living in. The Olympic Games were meant to being today, Athletes from around the world marching into the Tokyo stadium celebrating the start of a two week festival of sport.

But, it’s not to be. We have to wait another twelve months.

Not Oakley though – they’ve released a new collection that was originally intended to be the eyewear collection for Tokyo 2020.

Designed by artist Meguru Yamaguchi the range features elements of his colourful splashes of art.

The name “Kokoro” means Heart, Mind, Spirit and was aimed at unifying the athletes of all abilities.

Tokyo born, now Brooklyn-based artist Meguru Yamaguchi said “I was very excited when Oakley reached out to collaborate, as I’ve been a fan of the brand since my high school days”,

“When I connected with the athletes as part of the discovery phase, I was moved by their united passion for sport. Designing a collection that was emblematic of this shared passion was core to my process and I’m thrilled with the results”.

To mark the launch, Oakley is donating $200,000 to the World Health Organisation’s Solidarity Response Fund for COVID-19.

Oakley’s Global Marketing Director Ben Goss said “The Kokoro Collection celebrates how a universal love of sport can unify our community”

The collection span’s Oakley’s range offering something for everyone.
