HMD Global brings the Nokia 8.3 with 5G and Nokia 3.4 to Australia

There’s more Nokia phones on the way, with HMD Global announcing the Nokia 8.3 with 5G and Nokia 3.4 are coming to Australia.

Nokia 8.3

Announced during the virtual Mobile World Congress satellite events that occurred earlier this year, the Nokia 8.3 is the first 5G phone from HMD Global to hit the Australian market.

The Nokia 8.3 is the first 5G phone announced that supports all current 5G bands from 600Mhz to 3.8GHz thanks to Qualcomm’s modular platform support. It means you won’t need to worry about conencting to any 5G network in any country in the world.

The Nokia 8.3 has a 6.81-inch display with a punch-hole notch in the upper left hand corner. There’s power to spare with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 CPU, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. You should get all day usage out of the 4,500mAh battery inside too.

HMD Global have included their PureView quad camera with ZEISS Optics on the Nokia 8.3. The PureView Quad Camera consists of a 64MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor for portrait/Bokeh effects. The ZEISS Optics are a big deal with the Nokia 8.3 the first phone to debut the ZEISS Cinema capture and editor for video capture.

The Nokia 8.3 comes with Android 10 though it’s ‘Android 11 ready’ with an update expected soon after launch. There’ll be more updates coming too with a promise of two years of OS upgrades and three years of monthly security updates.

The other ‘feature’ of the Nokia 8.3 is of course it’s upcoming feature slot in the James Bond No Time to Die movie, set to hit cinemas in November.

Nokia 3.4

If the Nokia 8.3 is more phone than you’re interested in, the Nokia 3.4 offers an alternative.

Unlike the Nokia 8.3 there’s no 5G on-board, but the Nokia 3.4 has full LTE support and is the first in the Nokia 3 series phones to come with a punch-hole notch in the 6.39” HD+ resolution display.

There’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor under the hood, and a variety of memory options(3GB/32GB, 3GB/64GB and 4GB/64GB) will be on offer, though they haven’t confirmed what will be available in Australia. Memory can be expanded with microSD cards up to 512GB. A 4000mAh battery inside should also give you all day battery life.

HMD Global is also offering a powerful triple rear camera array on the Nokia 3.4 The array includes a 13MP main sensor with a 2MP depth sensor and 5MP Ultra-Wide sensor and of course an LED flash. The punch-hole notch in the display houses an 8MP Selfie-Cam.

The Nokia 3.4 will run Android 10 – Android One edition – with an update to Android 11 on the cards. HMD Global are promising three years of security updates and two years of software updates with the Nokia 3.4 as well.

Availability

The Nokia 8.3 will arrive first, with the phone arriving at Harvey Norman, JB Hifi and Amazon from October 15th in the ‘Polar Night’ colour.

Pre-orders will go live at JB Hifi from Thursday, 24th of September where you’ll be entitled to a bonus pre-order gift of the new Nokia Power Earbuds Lite ($99 RRP). Amazon will also do pre-orders from the 1st of October, though no pre-order bonus is mentioned.

The Nokia 3.4 hasn’t been priced, and no date has been given for launch beyond HMD Global confirming ‘The Nokia 3.4 will be coming soon to Australia.’

We’ll get more info on which of the memory configs for the Nokia 3.4, and their pricing will be coming when we get closer to launch.
