DJI Mini 2 Review – The perfect drone for regular users

We’ve come a really, really long way in a short space of time when it comes to Drone technology and the latest from DJI is proof of that – the DJI Mini 2 – everything most people would want or need, in the palm of your hand.

It’s almost hard to fathom that the DJI Mini 2 weighs just 249 grams. That fits it under the 250g limit that requires a drone to be registered, but it doesn’t mean it’s not capable in oh so many ways.

While small, it can withstand a decent gust of wind – though not quite like it’s bigger siblings the Mavic or Phantom drones.

DJI Mini 2 comes with a stunning 4K/30fps recording capability, while using a digital crop you can get closer to your subject when recording in 1080p without moving the drone.

Improved image transmission means you’re not going to get image signal issues, and while the drone can feed HD video from 10km away, that would be illegal given flight rules mean you must be able to see the drone at all times.

And while you’re up, you’ll get up to 31 minutes flight time from one battery. Really useful stuff.

I found the most impressive results by relying on DJI’s in-app “Quickshots”. The “Dronie” the Circle, the Boomeran and the Helix, along with the Rocket give you awesome looking shots for your socials without needing to really “fly” the drone. Just point, choose and shoot. Loved it.

While many might be disappointed by the much larger controller included with the DJI Mini 2, I for one perfer it. The flip out phone holder for me is not ideal, and the position of the screen above your control sticks is much more intuitive. It’s a big upgrade.

At $749, it’s not for everyone. Though at $599 the original Mini is a steal now.

Personally, I’d highly recommend the $949 Fly More combo which gives you three batteries and a handy carry bag.

My only request would be that DJI add a decent “follow me” or “active track” to the DJI Mini 2 – it’s possible, they’re just holding it off for their top end products. I think the Mini 2 would be unstoppable with that feature.

A great gadget to own, the perfect thing to take on road trips or holidays, shooting waterfalls, coastline, countryside you name it.
