Australian freelancing and crowd sourcing website, Freelancer.com, hits 50 million users globally

Freelancer started in Sydney in 2009 and since then has expanded around the globe and now has offices in Vancouver, London, Buenos Aires, Manila, and Jakarta. Now in its twelfth year of operation it is the world’s largest freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace reaching 50million users.

Freelancer has been invaluable to many people worldwide during the pandemic in 2020 giving them the ability to offer their services online worldwide with the number of users joining in 2020 (2.1million) up 17% on the previous year.

Matt Barrie, CEO and Chairman of Freelancer.com, says:

“COVID-19 has boosted the already upward trending freelancer movement, but last year’s exponential growth reflects the strong desire for individuals to start their own enterprise, work on their own terms and supplement their income. This is a global industry that didn’t exist a dozen years ago and the Freelancer marketplace has enabled 50 million users with a dream to make it real.”

Freelancer allows users to work from anywhere in the world where they can get an Internet connection giving them the ability to expand their businesses and supplement their income, which is especially useful in a time of economic hardship.

The number of users signed up for Freelancer far exceeds even the next most popular marketplace — Freelancer is now over 50 million and Fiverr is around 4 million.

To celebrate the 50 million user milestone Freelancer are giving their community the chance to tell the world what Freelancer.com means to them with $5,000 in prize money up for grabs in a contest where Freelancers make a video to showcase their work.

It’s great to see an Aussie company leading the world and continuing to grow day after day. If you have skills you think you could apply worldwide head on over to Freelancer.com and sign up.
