Dell announces new AMD Ryzen powered Alienware M15 and Dell G15 laptops

The latest AMD 5000-series CPUs may only be relatively new, but they’re having an impact with Dell announcing their first AMD powered laptops in almost 15 years.

Both the new ‘Ryzen edition’ of the Alienware M15 and Dell G15 will offer up to AMD Ryzen 5000 H-Series Mobile Processors, as well as up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series mobile graphics. Both laptops include 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM which is user-upgradeable on both laptops.

As an adjunct to the announcement of the Ryzen edition Alienware M15 and Dell G15, Dell has also announced four new gaming monitors including the 25-inch, 27inch and 32inch monitors which offer up to QHD resolution and 165Hz refresh rate and 2ms response, as well as the wide-format Dell 34 curved screen monitor with WQHD resolution.

Alienware M15

For the launch of the Ryzen Edition Alienware M15, Dell has re-jigged the industrial design of the laptop to differentiate it from the Intel model . The new ‘Dark Core’ design darkens the interior to keep your head in the game says Dell.

Dell M15

But this is a gaming laptop, so let’s talk specs. The M15 give customers the choice of either AMD Ryzen R7 5800H or AMD Ryzen R9 5900HX processors and up to 32GB DDR4 memory.

The new internals will be cooled with the new and improved Cryo-Tech cooling system, which uses a copper alloy thermal components to optimise performance while keeping the laptop cool.

The M15 comes with a 15.6-inch display, which can be configured to come in either a QHD 240Hz or FHD 360Hz.

Gamers wanting to go the extra mile will also have the option to include an ultra-low profile mechanical keyboard co-developed with CherryMX – and, as this is a gaming laptop, you’ll also get RGB lighting options on it too.

Dell G15

Joining the Alienware M15 is the Dell G15 which will also offer AMD Ryzen processors at its core, though at a more budget friendly price.

The G15 will offer customers the choice between the AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processors, with options for between 8-32GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM. To keep these fast new processors cool, gamers can hit the ‘Game Shift’ key which can crank up cooling performance for intense gaming sessions.

Dell G15

The Dell G15 will use the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 with 6GB of RAM to push the 15.6-inch FullHD display, with 120Hz refresh rate, though there’s also an option for a 165Hz panel.

Dell has borrowed some of the cooling techniques from the Alienware line in the new Ryzen Edition Dell G15. The laptop now includes air intakes above the keyboard and on the bottom of the laptop to feed copper heat pipes, which vent the heat using four exhaust vents.

The laptop will be available in two new colours: Specter Green with speckles, and Phantom Grey with speckles.

Dell Monitors

The new Dell monitors are a varied range, starting with the Dell 25 Gaming Monitor (S2522HG), a 24.5-inch FullHD resolution display with a 240Hz refresh rate and 1ms GtG (Grey-to-Grey) response time.

The Dell 25 Gaming Monitor also includes both NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible Certification and AMD FreeSync Premium Technology, letting you avoid those pesky screen tearing issues.

Both monitors include QHD resolution and have a 165Hz refresh rate, with 2ms GtG response.

Dell says that the monitors have sRGB 99% color coverage and also support Variable Refresh Rate so you can connect your gaming console to it.
