NSW Digital Drivers Licence a huge success with half of all drivers using one thanks to COVID

NSW has a huge claim to digital and innovation fame thanks to the success of the Service NSW app and the in-build Digital Drivers Licence which is now used by half of all drivers in the state.

Launched fully a little over a year ago, the Service NSW app allows NSW drivers to add their licence to the app digitally so it can be used as their ID and Drivers Licence when pulled over.

While other states are still in the middle of trials, or planning their move to digital licences, New South Wales has uniquely taken advantage of the COVID situation by building out the most advanced Government Services app in Australia. A single app where you can do QR code venue checkins, find your digital licences, and redeem government vouchers.

Minister for Digital and Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said “There are about 5 million active Service NSW app users and the app is fast becoming a one-stop shop digital wallet, providing fast and easy access to a range of services including COVID Safe check-ins and Dine & Discover vouchers.”

Of the five million Service NSW app users, three million have added a digital drivers licence, a figure which represents 53% of all licences issued in NSW.

Currently you can add Fishing licences, Boat licences even RSA certificates to the app, with the NSW Government working to add more licences, as well as trialling the Digital photo card, and digitising Trade licences too.

Blacktown tops the list of postcodes using a Digital Drivers Licence with almost 20,000 users while Dubbo is the biggest regional area – which makes sense given that’s one location the Licence was trialled originally a few years ago.
