10 years on – bang for your buck mobile plans over the years

Think you’re getting a raw deal on your mobile phone? How about a flashback ten years to realise just how good we’ve got it today.

It was ten years ago this week when Amaysim moved from being a cost per minute carrier to their current model of data driven monthly subscription.

Originally, Amaysim was priced at 15c per minute for standard calls, 12c per standard SMS and 5c per MB for data

In June 2011, they launched an unlimited standard talk, unlimited text, SMS, MMS and 4GB data for $39.90 per month.

Now if you want a real flashback to that era, check out this story on A Current Affair which looked at all the telco deals at the time:

Leave aside the fact it’s impossible to recharge your phone with the big three telcos for just $10 anymore, let’s look at what those basic plans might get you today, compared to 10 years ago!

Amaysim

So, how is Amaysim tracking as a challenger after all these years?

they launched an unlimited standard talk, unlimited text, SMS, MMS and 4GB data for $39.90 per month.

2011 – $39.902021 – $40
Unlimited Talk & textUnlimited Calls & texts
4GB data50GB data (1,150% increase)

Overall, looks like Vodafone has upped it’s game on data the most, though Telstra sure has come to the party over the years – most recently more than ever.

So, still think you’re getting a raw deal?

There’s always options folks!
