OPPO release the A16s, an affordable phone with AI camera and massive battery

Not everyone can afford flagship phones, not everyone wants a flagship phone and not everyone needs a flagship phone. For these people there are a multitude of options available for them and they are getting better and better with every release. OPPO has released a competitor for this affordable, entry-level smartphone segment with the A16s.

The OPPO A16s a decent 6.52-inch tear drop 720P LCD EyeCare display which is capable of a decent 480 nits and designed to be easy on the eye preventing eye-strain. As you would expect, a display this large requires a decent battery size to keep it running all day long. The A16s does not miss here with the 5,000mAh battery promising over a day of battery life.

The cameras on these affordable phones have improved a lot of the last few years with higher end technology trickling down. The OPPO A16s promises excellent photography thanks to its AI triple camera with the main camera 13MP — enough for decent imaging given the right situation. The selfie camera is a standard 8MP camera so hopefully you’ll be able to get some great selfies in front of some tourist destinations soon.

Many entry level phones miss out on the physical biometric security options but the A16s includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and face unlock. OPPOs face unlock is one of the fastest face unlocks on the market today and I have yet to have anyone else able to unlock my phone using their face or a picture of me so it has some security behind it.

The 4G smartphone is dual SIM and supports Bluetooth 5.0, includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC and is charged using a USB-C cable at 10W.

Available in Pearl Blue and Crystal Black the OPPO A16s is available now at Optus and Vodafone for 9. If you are in the market for a decent affordable phone for yourself, a friend or a loved one (eg. a child starting high school etc) then add this smartphone to the list of phones you need to check out before purchasing.
