GoPro HERO11 Black launches in three models with larger sensor and more

It’s been 20 years since GoPro launched their original action camera back in 2002, but today we’re getting their latest with the launch of the GoPro Hero 11 Black.

The new model offers a number of substantial updates over previous generations and will launch in three variations: GoPro Hero 11 Black, GoPro Hero 11 Black ‘Creator Edition’ and GoPro HERO11 Mini.

The GoPro HERO11 Black Creator Edition will include a long-lasting battery grip with built-in buttons for one-handed camera control, LED light, directional mic as well as external mic input and HDMI port. The GoPro Hero11 Black Mini offers a more compact solution to capture new experiences in a smaller, lighter, more compact version with all the same performance features as the GoPro HERO11 Black.

The new GoPro HERO11 Black builds on last year’s model offering a larger  1/2.3 sensor, 10-bit colour depth and improvements to video stabilisation with HyperSmooth 5.0 including 360-degree horizon lock. The camera also now offers improved video capture resolutions at higher frame rates including up to 5.3K at 60fps, as well as 4K at 120fps.

The new GoPro Hero 11 Black uses a larger 1/2.3 sensor snapping 27MP shots and offering 8:7 aspect ratio video, offering their largest vertical field of view  – perfect for capturing video for both Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts or TikTok at 9:16, or full 16:9 wide-screen shots for YouTube or showing on a large screen.

To make sure you can capture more, for longer, the new GoPro HERO 11 Black will now include the Enduro battery across all three models in the range – including as a built-in on the GoPro HERO11 Black Mini. The Enduro battery offers improved camera performance in extreme cold temps, as well as up to 38% extended recording times in more moderate temperatures.

There’s also new Night Effect time lapse presets to make capturing Star or Vehicle Light Trails more easily, and a new Light Painting setting to really show off some artistic shots.

For those new to the GoPro HERO11 Black, there’s now simpler camera control with a new Easy mode, as well as a Pro mode for those more familiar with the camera and settings to make it easier to record at your skill level.

The new GoPro range will also take advantage of a new update to the Quik editor which will auto-upload footage to the cloud and leverage the GoPro subscription service to create automatic highlight videos which are sent to your phone, showing the best parts added and letting you edit that video to your needs. This new feature will work with any camera back to Hero5 – or basically any camera able to bring content into the GoPro online cloud service.

The new GoPro HERO11 Black is available from today for $649.95 (AUD) for GoPro Subscribers and $799.95 MSRP. The new HERO11 Black Creator Edition is also available globally today at $929.95 for GoPro Subscribers and $1099.95 MSRP. For those wanting to get a hold of the new mini edition, the GoPro HERO11 Black Mini will be available at GoPro.com on Oct. 25 for $499.95 for GoPro Subscribers and $649.95 MSRP, rolling out to retailers globally soon after.
