If the entry level $10.99 Netflix plan is too much for you, Netflix is launching it’s “Basic with Ads” plan in November at a price of $6.99.
Importantly, existing Netflix customers will NOT see ads, nothing changes for you. The new plan lineup will start with Basic with Ads, then Basic, Standard and Premium.
Australia is one of 12 countries launching Basic with Ads, including Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Korea, Spain, the US and the UK.
What we know is that you’ll see on average 4-5 minutes of ads per hour, and there will be some movies and TV shows that will not be available on the Basic with Ads plan. That’s not because Netflix doesn’t want you to have them, but because the rights Netflix paid for didn’t allow for ads in the programs. They’re working on it.
There’s also no downloads available, so if you are planning to fly somewhere, and get some shows on your tablet or phone, you’ll need a higher paid plan.
Ads will be 15 and 30 seconds in length, and will play before and during shows as EFTM revealed recently.
It’s a $4 a month saving, but you’re getting 4-5 minutes of ads per hour. Worth it?
Honestly, I don’t see it. At $3.99 it’s appealing. But for $6.99 you’re getting Amazon Prime?
