Citizen announce a WearOS 3 smartwatch with NASA and IBM Watson tech onboard

Citizen has today announced a new smartwatch that will not only run WearOS 3 but also include tech from NASA and IBM Watson.

The Citizen CZ Smart is the second generation smartwatch from Citizen and includes a 1.28-inch OLED display and 24 hours of battery life.  It will be powered by a Snapdragon Wear 4100 Plus chipset accompanied by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage.

Citizen has included all the usual connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, built-in GPS and NFC along with sensors for motion, heart rate and SpO2 to provide overall health measurements.

The big-ticket item is the wellness app which was apparently built with IBM Watson Studio and uses technology from NASA in its analysis.  The Citizen CZ Smart YouQ app uses IBM Watson to analyse the wearers preferred wake and sleep times over a period of seven to 10 days by processing sleep data and “alert scores.”

The alert scores are processed by an alert monitor that uses a consumer version of NASA’s Psychomotor Vigilance Task Test.  This test is designed to determine the persons mental acuity and can be used to measure the wearer’s alertness.

The CZ Smart smartwatch arrives in a 44mm Sport and 41mm Casual models with both available in a variety of silicone, leather and metal straps.

The Citizen CZ Smart smartwatch will be available in the US in March with the Casual model starting at US$350 and the Sport model at US$375.  Local availability and pricing are yet to be announced.
