OPPO launch the foldable Find N3 to the world, arriving Downunder this year

In Singapore today, OPPO has launched the third generation of their book-style foldable, the Find N3, and in good news it is finally on its way Downunder.

While the Find N2 Flip made a big splash here in Australia its bigger sibling, the Find N2 was nowhere to be seen outside of China.  This year though OPPO are aiming high and are releasing the Find N3 worldwide, in North America as the OnePlus Open and as the Find N3 everywhere else.

Speaking at the global launch of the device, OPPO Australia Managing Director, Michael Tran stated:

The Find N3 has grown significantly since last year’s Find N2, a whole 21.2mm taller, now measuring 153.4mm (H) x 143.1mm (W) and just 5.8mm (D) while open and now weighing 239 grams. Closed, the width is 73.3mm and the depth 11.9mm. It is an interesting choice to make the phone so much taller given this new height puts it in direct competition with a near-identically sized phone to the Galaxy Fold 5.

This year though the phone comes with upgraded displays and a flagship quality camera system, so it is easy to see the requirement for more room to fit all the new hardware.

The outer display is a 20:9 aspect ratio, 6.3-inch, 2,484 x 1,116 AMOLED display made with Nanocrystal Glass which is 500 times stronger than the standard glass on smartphone displays – this is not something we will be testing out, so you’ll have to take their word for it).  Unfold the Find N3 and you will be greeted by the 7.8-inch, 2,268 x 2,440 AMOLED self-healing display. Both displays are LTPO displays supporting refresh rates of 1 to 120Hz and have a max brightness of 2,800nits.

Those concerned about the durability of the display of what is an extremely expensive device, it has achieved a reliable folding rating of 1,000,000 folds which equates to approximately 270 folds a day for over 10 years.  Seems enough – although I’m not sure the warranty would hold for close to 10 years. The new Flexion Hinge is not just smaller than its predecessor but also more durable, helping the phone achieve its thinness.

On the rear of the foldable is one of the biggest camera islands you will ever see, mirroring the phone with the best smartphone camera in the world, the OPPO Find X6 Pro. The island houses a 48MP primary camera which is a Sony LYTIA-T808 sensor alongside a 48MP ultrawide camera and a 3x telephoto lens.  The entire camera setup promises to one of, if not the best, camera systems in the any foldable smartphone we have seen.

The selfie camera is a 32MP selfie camera although this is confusing saying that – this is the camera at the top of the outer display.  There is of course a 20MP selfie camera in the top right (depending on which way you hold it) corner of the internal display – the inner selfie camera? 

Speaking of new hardware, OPPO has this year included the Alert Slider that we have seen in their sub-brand OnePlus for a while now. This allows you to quickly slide the button to either silent, vibrate or ring quickly and easily. This is usually customisable in OnePlus phones so it will be interesting to see if OPPO continue with this tradition.

The newest foldable is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 16GB of RAM accompanied by up to 512GB of UFS4.0 storage.  The 4,800mAh battery supports OPPO’s 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging but there is no wireless charging on this foldable — something I’d argue isn’t required given the 67W fast charging capability.

The OPPO Find N3 will launch with ColorOS 13.2 on top of Android 13 with OPPO promising four years of software updates and five years of security updates. ColorOS 13.2 has been updated for the tablet-like experience of the open foldable with the Global TaskBar with App Library and File Pocket helping you to access recent apps and files quickly and effortlessly. Boundless View allows for true PC-like multitasking with the ability to move files and apps around easily.

The OPPO Find N3 is available in Classic Black (vegan leather) in Australia and will be available in the next couple of months for RRP $2,699.
