X (Twitter) set to introduce two new premium tiers for less ads

It’s been a big year for X, and not in a good way. In a bid to prevent the haemorrhaging of money and value, X is introducing two new premium tiers — assuming there is anyone left to subscribe.

According to X owner, Elon Musk, the two new tiers with both allow all features but only one has no ads.

While there is yet to be an official announcement from X, there are expected to be three tiers with two of them paid — Basic, Standard and Plus. Bloomberg has reported that a full complement of ads will be shown to Basic users, Standard will see half as many ads and Plus users no ads at all.

While it is unclear just how much these tiers will be we do not expect them to be cheap considering ad revenue is Twitters main source of income so to remove them is a big kick in the bottom line.

As an aside X started charging a $1 annual fee in New Zealand and the Philippines, apparently to combat spam, last week which sounds like a test bed set to roll out to other countries should it be well received.

These new charges will undoubtedly encourage and accelerate users to continue leaving X in droves but it may just help X turn around their monetary fortunes. Nothing else so far has worked.
