CES 2024: Alienware double their QD-OLED lineup, show off three new gaming laptops, and debut a new Pro wireless mouse and Pro wireless keyboard

Alienware is coming strong to CES 2024 with updates to their QD-OLED family, while unveiling brand new laptops and gaming peripherals with a wireless mouse and a wireless keyboard.

Alienware laptops

After unveiling the m16 at last year’s CES, this year Dell has upgraded the design, firstly with the removal of the “thermal shelf” to make the laptop more portable. In doing so Alienware had to redesign the internals and colling system of the laptop and in the end made their Cryo-tech cooling to be “more efficient in a smaller package.” The end result was 43% more efficient air flow compared to last year’s m16.

The redesign did not stop there with a larger palm rest and touchpad (with RGB lighting) thanks to a new hinge being moved to where the thermal shelf was on the previous model. The new m16 R2 now includes a Stealth Mode to tone down the lighting effects of the laptop. A quick tap on the F2 key turns the keyboard backlighting white and turns off all other AlienFX lighting and switches the fan to quiet mode.

The display is a QHD+ 240Hz display offering sharp detail along with rich colours and is powered by Intel Core Ultra H processors combined with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series mobile GPUs.

The entire new Alienware laptop range includes NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 AI upscaling technology, AWCC 6.1, an upgraded FHD webcam with HDR support with AI-powered far-field microphones, next gen connectivity with up to Wi-Fi 7 support and ComfortView Plus for eye strain reductions thanks to reduced blue light emissions.

The new Alienware gaming laptops, m16 R2 and m18 R2, will be launching in January but the exact availability and pricing for our market is unknown at this stage.

Alienware Pro Wireless Mouse and Keyboard

Alienware has not introduced new gaming keyboards or mice for a while now but have come to CES 2024 with a new wireless mouse and wireless keyboard, both of Pro standard and quality.

The new competitive Alienware Pro Wireless Mouse offers 4KHz wireless (0.25ms response time) and 8KHz (0.125ms) wired polling rates placing it at the pointy end of the market with these specs. The design of the mouse is simple and understated but designed for comfort for all grip types and weighs under 60 grams for that ultralight experience. Underneath is also a housing for the wireless dongle.

The switches and buttons offer a quick response thanks to Magnetic-Force Keyplates with optical switches improving rapid clicking speed. The sensor offers 650 IPS tracking speed and up to 26,000 DPI (not sure who would even use this), for accurate and consistent tracking while gaming.

Offering a battery life of up to 120 hours, 6-button customisation and dual connectivity with the 2.4Ghz wireless or a wired connection the Pro Wireless mouse is designed for gamers who want to get the best out of their peripherals they personally can.

The Alienware Pro Wireless Keyboard arrives in a 75% custom form factor allowing for added space on their desktop without unnecessary keys getting in the way. Alienware has incorporated new custom linear mechanical key switches with a precise 40g actuation force and a satisfying clicky sound. The switches are pre-lubricated but if you prefer a different switch you can use most 5- or 3-pin switches instead.

The keycaps are double-shot PBT keycaps tested to 100 million activations and are moulded in colour so they won’t fade over time.

In full RGB mode and using the 2.4GHz connection the battery life will last for 72 hours or a whopping 798 hours with the RGB off. The RGB transmits through the transparent key switches for that full RGB effect. Connectivity options include 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB-C wired connectivity with the keyboard offering a 1KHz polling rate for both wired and 2.4GHz connection options.

The Alienware Pro Wireless mouse and Pro Wireless Keyboard are available in the next week in the US starting at US$149.99 and US$199.99 respectively. Keep an eye out for local availability and pricing in the coming weeks.

Alienware 32 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (AW3225QF) and Alienware 27 360Hz QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (AW2725DF)

The new AW3225QF offers a 4K curved panel designed to help reduce reflection and capture expanded peripheral vision with the improved contrasts and true blacks you see in a QD-OLED display. The new display is not all about the 4K resolution though, offering a 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms grey-to-grey response time, Dolby Vision HDR and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400.

The AW3225QF is also NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible and supports HDMI 2.1 FRL for that high quality immersive 4K gaming experience.

The AW2725DF brings an exceptionally fast 360Hz native refresh rate with 0.3ms grey-to-grey response time in the stunning colours and contrast of a QD-OLED monitor. It offers a fluid gaming experience with support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and VESA AdaptiveSync technology and includes a fully adjustable stand for maximum gaming comfort.

Both the Alienware 32 4K QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (AW3225QF) and the Alienware 27 360Hz QD-OLED Gaming Monitor (AW2725DF) are available this week in the US for US$1,199.99 and US$899.99 respectively. Keep an eye out for local availability and pricing in the coming weeks.
