CES 2024: ChatGPT will be available on selected Volkswagens this year

BMW are not the only company announcing AI in the car at CES 2024 with Volkswagen announcing they will be adding ChatGPT to their vehicles beginning Q2 2024.

Volkswagen will be integrating ChatGPT into its IDA voice assistant in selected models including the all-new Tiguan, the all-new Passat and the new Golf.  With ChatGPT integrated, drivers will be able to control the infotainment system, navigation and air conditioning and to answer general questions while driving, all hands-free.

For those conscious about their personal data (and we all should be to some extent), ChatGPT does not gain access to vehicle data and questions and answers are deleted immediately to protect your data.

We are now the first volume manufacturer to make this innovative technology a standard feature to vehicles from the compact segment upwards. Thanks to the seamless integration of ChatGPT and strong collaboration with our partner, Cerence, we are offering our drivers added value and direct access to the AI-based research tool. This also underlines the innovative strength of our new products,” said Kai Grünitz, Member of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand for technical Development.

To use the new chatbot you won’t need to make a new account, install a new app or even activate ChatGPT, simply activate the voice assistant by saying “Hello IDA” or by pressing the button on the steering wheel.

It is unclear if or when this will be rolling out in Australia but we will furnish those details when they come to hand.

EFTM’s Coverage of CES 2024 is made possible by the ongoing support of our regular advertisers and supporters such as Arlo, Belkin, Oppo, Motorola, Ecovacs, LG, Netgear, JBL and Trend Micro, and by additional support from Samsung, LG, Hisense, TCL, and ASUS
