Instagram giving kids a nudge to maybe stop scrolling and go to sleep

Meta, the big parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and all things social media has announced a new feature aimed at encouraging teens to stop scrolling at night – it’s called Nighttime nudge.

Kids will get an alert on their phone if they spend more than 10 minutes scrolling through the app on Reels or in DMs between the hours of 10pm and 4am.

It’s all about encouraging kids to get to sleep, and not doom scroll well into the night.

Nighttime Nudge isn’t the first tool Meta has developed to help teens – and parents of teens, manage their time spent online.

Parents can already set daily limits, or schedule breaks for their children, there are already full-screen “take a break” reminders within the app, and there is “Quiet Mode” which allows you to mute notificaitons and sentd auto replies – like when doing homework.

As a parent I also get notifications of new followers and following from my kids accounts.

All great stuff, perhaps the Adults also need a nighttime nudge from Instagram?
