MG Cyberster a step closer to Australia, spotted recharging near Sydney

The electric MG Cyberster roadster from China is a step closer to local showrooms.

And it has been spotted alongside what is believed to be the new MG HS mid-size SUV, which has not been seen locally before.

After being caught on camera in Sydney and Melbourne in recent months – presumably doing some final pre-launch testing – the MG Cyberster has now been spotted by an eagle-eyed EFTM reader.

Former technology journalist and friend of EFTM Harry Tucker took these photos of the MG Cyberster parked alongside MG’s new mid-size SUV (possibly a plug-in hybrid variant) while they were being recharged at a public charger south of Sydney in Mittagong.

MG is yet to release price and details of the Cyberster but it is due in showrooms in the second half of this year, pending any delays.

And little is known about the next generation MG HS SUV replacement, however after being spotted on local roads we presume it is due here sometime within the next 12 months.

As previously reported by EFTM, the Cyberster is the first sports-car from MG in more than two decades.

The last one was more than 20 years ago when the MG badge changed hands from British to Chinese ownership.

Overseas, there are three versions of the MG Cyberster available with a range of power outputs and battery capacity.

All models promise brisk performance ranging from a 0 to 100kmh time of 5 seconds for the base model to sub 4 seconds for the top-of-the-range model.

Using overseas pricing as a guide, the MG Cyberster line-up could cost between $60,000 and $100,000 when it goes on sale locally by the end of this year.

EFTM understands Australia will initially get just one, top-of-the-range model.

Final Australian specifications and prices are yet to be announced but a number of examples have already been caught on camera on local roads ahead of the Australian launch.
