Do you have a family member on a learner driver permit – but there’s not always a spare car for them to learn in?
Car share firm GoGet has an option to rent cars by the hour for lessons – and you can also book a car for a test.
We stumbled on this story after a friend hit a roadblock while taking her teenage son for a learner driver test.
The tester knocked backed mum’s car because it had a crack in the tail-light (apparently this was deemed unroadworthy even though the tail-light worked normally and glowed in the correct colours).
Amid a scramble for a new tail-light ahead of a reschuled appointment, the mum had a brainwave.
She wondered if GoGet rented cars to learners. Answer: Yes.
To double check, she rang Service NSW to make sure a GoGet car would be allowed by the learner tester. Answer: Yes.
So if you’re stuck, this could be an option for you.

There are some conditions. An adult driver must already be a member of GoGet. And the learner driver must live at the same address.
Here is the blurb from the GoGet website:
The GoGet learner program is for family members of existing GoGet members. If you’re over 25 years old and are on a GoFrequent or GoOccasional plan, you can add a learner as an additional driver to your account.
Learners can be any age, but they must live at your address. L-platers must also only drive with you, the main account holder, in the car.
There’s a $25 fee for adding an extra driver to your account. There is also an additional surcharge for learner driver bookings.
The GoGet vehicle range for learner drivers is limited to hatchbacks (so not vans, utes or SUVs).
