Meta outage – Global disruption to Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp messaging platforms

Bad day to be a Meta engineer, the company which runs Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp is experiencing a global outage across several areas of it’s business which would be costing them over $20 million per hour.

While accessing the sites and services is fine for some, other users are unable to refresh the social media feeds on their smartphones or computers. Facebook’s website on my laptop shows this error:

On instagram, the Messaging Inbox is unable to load any conversations:

But it’s clear Meta is aware of the issue, their service status page shows some pretty horrible big red flags:

But there’s no detail from the company available – just – disruption notices:

Meta engineers are working on the outage, which appears now to be focussed in their ad services and messaging back end.

No known estimated time for the restoration of services, but given it is the middle of the day at Meta’s HQ – expect an all-hands response.
