Amazon reveals what we asked Alexa for in 2024

Around this time of year, we hear just what our fellow Aussies have been up to with their tech products and services, and today, Amazon has revealed just what Aussies asked their Alexa assistant the most.

Interestingly, Amazon has revealed that Aussies were four times more likely to ask Alexa to insult them than compliment them. If you want to try it out for yourself, the leading keywords were: “insult me”, “are we mates?” and “do something silly”.

As per usual, Alexa was used for general knowledge topics such as “What is the value of Bitcoin?”, “How do you cook for yourself?” and “How long do you cook an egg?” Although I’m not entirely sure why someone would ask how to cook for yourself, just make half? In yet another indictment of our education system, many Aussies also asked Alexa what the capital city of Australia was.

Many folks have an Alexa device in their kitchens and this bore out by us asking Alexa for help with recipes with a baked sweet potato the most popular recipe asked for with double chocolate mousse cake, pear and blue cheese tart others high on the Chef Alexa help list.

Taylor Swift was everywhere on Alexa too with the Eras Tour in the number one spot for the most played artist and also ranked high in the “How old is…”, “How much is … worth?”, “How tall is….” and most asked celebrities categories.

Sport was also high on the Alexa list this year with many turning to Alexa to find out the score of the AFL/NRL/NBA and cricket match/game. In an Olympic year it is no surprise that “How many medals does Australia have?” making the top 10 of the sport category.

In the smart home category, Aussies executed 279 million routines on Alexa in the past 12 months, 40% more than the previous year.

It seems that more and more Aussies are flocking to Amazon’s Alexa and using it for knowledge at their fingertips. How did you use your Alexa this year?
