Amazon brings more AI features to the Kindle Scribe

We recently reviewed the Amazon Kindle Scribe, and although it definitely has its uses, we were left a little underwhelmed by the AI offerings. Amazon has now expanded the AI onboard with new abilities and features.

The new features include extended margins, a notebook summarisation feature, and a note refinement feature. They are available for both the latest Kindle Scribe and the one released in 2022.

Summarise

The new AI-powered notebook summarisation gives the user a quick synopsis of their notes that can be easily shared.  You can select up to 15 notebook pages and then access the Summarise feature by entering the notebook menu, selecting the GenAI option and then the Summarise feature.

The summarise feature converts your notes into bullet points in a script font for easy reading and sharing.

Refinement

The Refinement feature uses AI to convert your handwritten notes into a more readable and elegant script font.  You can still edit and change your notes after using the Refine Writing option.  The Refine Writing option is also found in the GenAI menu.

Expandable Margins

The Active Canvas, which is used for notes on the Scribe, has been further enhanced with AI. The margin can now be expanded to view expanded notes or collapsed to visualise the original page.

To open a margin, tap the icon in the top corner and then write as much as you want in the margin.  Tap the icon again to close the margin.  The Active Canvas feature will ensure your notes will stay attached to the relevant section of the document.

The new updates are rolling out now to your 2022 and 2024 Kindle Scribe and will automatically download when you connect to Wi-Fi.
