Australian Formula One Grand Prix sets records at the track and on TV

Oscar Piastri’s disappointment at Melbourne’s opening race of the Formula One season is quite the opposite for literally everyone else involved with record crowds and TV ratings for the Aussie GP.

465,498 people made their way into Albert Park across the four days, a new record but still short of Silverstone’s impressive numbers in 2024.

However, for Channel 10 and Fox Sports/Kayo it’s all up.

10’s free to air coverage racked up 1.72 million viewers during the race, with viewership up 31% year on year – a big win for TEN attracting their highest share of Audience since 2008!

And it wasn’t just free to air, their TenPlay app was up 87% on 2024, the biggest race audience since 2016.

Season-long rights holders Fox Sports had everything to cheer for with the 2025 Australian Formula One Grand Prix becoming the most-watched race of all-time across Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

Kayo Sports CEO Julian Ogrin, said, “It was a spectacular weekend of sport with Kayo Sports the only place to watch all the action from the F1®, AFL, NRL, netball, golf, basketball, surfing and much more.

“We’re focused on delivering value for our customers, and this weekend we served up an unmatched 450 hours of live sport. The hardest thing for our customers was prioritising what to watch.”

EFTM can reveal that the Subscription TV average race audience was up 22% on last year and a staggering 55 million minutes were streamed during the race.

A huge win for F1, and a huge success for the Australian Grand Prix.

Here’s to Shanghai this weekend, hoping Oscar can turn things around and bounce straight back!
