HMD announces reverse wireless charging Amped Buds and fun new phones at MWC

Alongside their new Fusion X1 smartphone for kids, at MWC 2025 this year HMD has expanded their family of devices with new phones and wireless earbuds.

HMD Amped Buds

For anyone looking for a neat accessory, the new Amped Buds offer some great audio features and come with a battery case that can magnetically power up your phone wirelessly or using standard wired charging so you’re never caught short.

Featuring a 1,600mAh battery, the case can give your buds up to 95 hours of music playback or you can spare some to top up your phone when you need it.

The case is a perfect Qi2 accessory which  can connect magnetically to the back of compatible phones including the HMD Skyline and the iPhone. You can also charge the case wirelessly or just plug it in.

Offered in three colours, Black, Cyan and Pink, the buds have a matte finish with a flat top and bottom, and are ready for a heavy workout at the gym or walk in the rain with an IPX4 rating on the case and IP54 rating on the buds.

In terms of audio, the HMD Amped Buds come with a hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) from three mics per bud, the buds offer superb sound quality while also removing external noise.

You’ll also have control of your sound quality through the EQ in the Android and IOS app – and Android users will also enjoy Fast Pair support for easy setup. The Amped Buds also offer multi-point support between two devices letting you switch easily back and forth between your laptop and phone.

I cannot wait to try these out, and they’ll be hitting Australia later this year with dates and times to be announced closer to launch.

HMD Phones

Joining the HMD phone family in 2025 are the new HMD 130 and 150 Music phones focused on music with ‘booming sound’, while the HMD 2660 Flip offers a chance for a simpler mobile experience.

HMD 2660 Flip

A digital detox is something that’s becoming more necessary in our connected lives and the HMD 2660 Flip gives you a stylish flip phone to use while you do it.

You may not have a touch screen, but it does have 2.8” QVGA resolution display and a T9 keyboard with large buttons  for anyone old enough to remember what that is. I am old enough and I really want to try it out to give the old muscle memory a chance to belt out a few texts on the fly.

There’s a few features to keep you entertained, with an FM radio, and 0.3MP camera built-in, as well as a dedicated emergency SOS call key that allows you to enter an In Case of Emergency (ICE) contact that activates when long pressed and there’s even a removable 1450mAh battery should keep you going for a long while without any distractions to keep you on it.

The HMD 2660 Flip has classic HMD stylings with a glossy, mirrored, all-glass front plate, for any on the go touch ups, and comes with an IP54 splash protection  rating and scratch resistant glass. Available in three gorgeous looking options: Cosy Black, Twilight Violet, and Raspberry Red, the 2660 is sure to be a talking point,

The HMD 2660 Flip has been confirmed as coming to Australia with the phone expected to land in the first half of this year, but launch date and pricing will be announced later.

HMD Music

Going for a sound-centric line, HMD are launching the HMD 130 Music and 150 Music offering great features for listening to your music on the go.

These candy bar style phones include a compact design packing in a 2W speaker with dedicated music buttons, as well as FM radio. The phones support bluetooth and have a microSD card slot so you can easily slot in a card full of your favourite tunes and use them as a bluetooth speaker when you need them.

Both phones include a 2.4”QVGA display with a 2500mAhremovable battery capable of lasting up to a month in standby and have a durable design which  comes in some awesome colour options. The HMD 130 is available in Dark Grey, Blue and Red and HMD 150 Music colours include Dark Grey, Midnight Purple and Aqua Blue.

There’s minor differences between the phones, with the HMD 130 including a dual torch at the top, while the HMD 150 includes a QVGA resolution camera with a single LED torch.

No word yet on availability on the HMD 130 and 150 Music, but we’re keen to see how they go as bluetooth speakers, or as a simple music player option for people not keen on streaming and smartphones – not sure it’s as easy as it used to be to get music as an Mp3 file though – we’ll see!
