Review: Logitech Keys-To-Go — their best keyboard made mobile

Many of us work on the go these days, and it can be a burden to carry all our gear with us.  This is where a good portable keyboard can come in very handy.

Many portable keyboards are nowhere near as good as your desktop variety but the Logitech Keys-To-Go is different.  It combines portability with the much-loved and award-winning keys of their MX Keys keyboards, resulting in an extremely pleasant experience to use.

I’ve been using the Logitech Keys-To-Go keyboard for over a week now.  With Trevor away on a much-needed holiday, it has been up to myself and Dan to keep on top of all the EFTM emails, announcements and more.  For this, I had Logitech send me their Keys-To-Go keyboard, and I’m sure glad I did.

Design + features

The design of the Keys-To-Go keyboard is small, but not too small.  It is incredibly thin, with a foldable cover that, when folded over, tilts the keyboard slightly upward towards you, improving typing comfort.

Weighing just 220 grams, it is super light and easy to stick in your bag/glovebox/backpack etc, and you won’t even notice the additional weight from it.

The keys included are every key you see on one of Logitech’s mini keyboards and although it may seem like the keys are much smaller than those on a standard mini keyboard, they are not.

The distance from the outside of the Q key to the outside of the P key on a MX Keys Mini keyboard is 187mm and yet, on the Keys-To-Go keyboard, is 177mm.  Just one centimetre over that distance is quite impressive – that is 1mm per key,

So what makes the Keys-To-Go nearly 5cm smaller than the MX Keys Mini?  The other keys.  The keys that you do not use as much, such as the square brackets, the enter key, backspace and caps lock etc, are much smaller than their counterparts on the MX Keys Mini.  You don’t use these all that much anyway so it really does not affect your typing much, if at all.

Interestingly, the smaller Keys-To-Go still includes the source selector buttons and the function shortcut keys but they are just smaller than those on other keyboards.  You rarely use these, so their being smaller does not matter at all.

I was able to pair the keyboard with my iPad, OPPO Pad 2, and phone, and using the selector button, easily switch between each source as needed.

The Kets-To-Go also supports Logi Options+ on Windows and Mac and it is from here where you customise your shortcut keys and apply software updates.  I applied one update in my time using it on my PC and it was effortless and quick.

The Keys-To-Go keyboard supports Android 12.0 and later, ChromeOS, Windows 10 or later, iPad OS 17 or later, iOS 17 or later and MacOS 14 or later.  I tested it out on all of them and didn’t have a single issue with any of them.

When using the Keys-To-Go on a mobile device such as an Android tablet or iPad there isn’t anyway to go directly to the home page of your device such as a home button but there is a multitask button that brings up your most recent apps — as does the usual Alt-Tab key combo. Logitech has done a great job with this keyboard.

Performance

The last couple of days (Easter), I’ve spent a lot of time in front of my PC and I have been exclusively using the Logitech Keys-To-Go keyboard and I have barely missed a beat.

Sure, the 1 mm-travel scissor keys are different to those I’m used to, and the keys are slightly smaller than my usual keyboard, but I was able to type three reviews comfortably, a few articles and a lot of emails without any issues.

The pitch of the keys is the same as that on my usual MX Keys Mini keyboard – 18mm v 19mm.  The keys are 1mm smaller in width, so the spacing between them is the same, which means that the accuracy of the typing is not affected at all.

The Keys-To-Go is battery-powered and not rechargeable, which saves space inside, making it lighter.  The battery apparently should last 36 months. Upon expiration, you would unscrew the top and replace the battery inside with a standard coin battery.

Performance-wise, I have no doubt that you could take this keyboard anywhere and use it for any typing task for as long as you want without a single issue.

Should you buy it?

If you are someone who works while mobile and often only has a tablet or phone with you, then yes, you should buy this. The typing experience is quite good, much better than I expected.

The alphabet keys are all very nearly the same size as a standard keyboard and they are the ones you use the most. The key travel is decent while still being small enough that the keyboard is still incredibly thin.

There really isn’t anything negative I can say about this keyboard. The typing experience is excellent, the keyboard is incredibly lightweight with a tiny footprint in every dimension and the lid not only protects the keyboard when not using it but also provides for a slight angle towards you for a more comfortable typing experience.

I could most definitely recommend the Keys-To-Go keyboard from Logitech to anyone who works on the go. At $129, it is not cheap, but it is worth the money if you work on the go.
