Apple blocked 711 million account creations on the App Store – How Apple keeps iPhone users safe

There’s a few things Apple keeps at their core as principals of their business and alongside privacy would most certainly be user trust and security, today Apple has revealed the data that shows just how much effort they go to in keeping the App Store safe for Apple device users.

Fraudulent accounts are a a way of initiating spam, as well as potentially manipulating the ratings and reviews on the App Store. Turns out Apple has a keen eye on things, rejecting over 711,000,000 customer account creations last year alone. Wowsers.

They also deactivated 129,000,000 – just consider for a minute how many businesses would love to take these accounts on just for the sake of claiming those as user numbers, but here’s Apple rejecting close to 1 billion accounts!

Perhaps most critical to the safety of the App Store are the apps themselves. What you may or may not know is that every single App available in the App Store goes through a strict vetting process.

It’s not enough for a developer just to code an app. It is then submitted, and reviewed by both automated and human processes to detect anything that might be harmful to users.

By the numbers, in 2024 Apple had 7.7 million App Store submissions. They rejected 1.9 million of them.

Now I don’t know the detail of those numbers, if they were unique app submissions or if that includes re-submissions. Even the EFTM app was rejected a couple of times on minor details before it was approved.

Even if an App makes it onto the App Store, it can still be ejected – App Review removed 37,000 apps in 2024 due to fraudulent activity. And you can’t hide features from the App Store team.

They rejected 43,000 submissions for containing hidden or undocumented features, and if you’re worried about copycats, Apple rejected 320,000 submissions that copied other apps or were found to be spam or misleading to users.

When it comes to you finding and deciding to download an app, Apple’s got your back there too. Last year there were over 1.2 billion ratings and reviews.

Apple removed 143 million of them!!

Big numbers, just imagine the submissions they must see in the App Store team!
