Amazon adds new lower-cost Kindle Colorsoft to their range

After announcing their first colour screen Kindle, the Coloursoft Signature Edition, last year Amazon have today announced a new, lower cost addition to the colour Kindle range.

Announced in a blog post, the new Kindle Colorsoft (sic) is priced at $399 in Australia, $150 cheaper than the Colorsoft Signature Edition, yet retains the most important features, the 7” glare-free colour display, letting Kindle users view their Kindle Library, photos, or highlight their favourite passages all in colour, as well as the waterproof durability and long life battery which lasts up to eight weeks on a single charge.

There are of course a few things different between the two models. The Kindle Colorsoft comes with only 16GB of internal storage – down from 32GB in the Signature edition, as well as not including wireless charging or Auto-adjusting front-light sensor – though you can adjust the settings manually.

The Coloursoft Kindle will of course have access to Amazon’s Kindle library, including access to a range of graphic novels, to really show off the colour display. Users can also highlight text in different colours, as well as invert page and text colours for those who prefer to read on pages with a dark background.

Jacqui Corbett, Amazon Devices Country Manager, Australia and New Zealand said

We’re delighted to bring Kindle Colorsoft to our customers in Australia. This is a significant milestone for Kindle locally, offering readers the perfect blend of our beloved e-reader experience with high-contrast colour capabilities. Whether you’re enjoying travel guides, children’s books, graphic novels, or cookbooks, or simply want to personalise your reading with colourful highlights, Kindle Colorsoft delivers this, giving an enhanced reading experience anywhere, anytime.”

This newer, more budget friendly Kindle Colorsoft comes in Black, as opposed to the Metallic Black of the Colorsoft Signature Edition, and also has a range of cases in fabric, plant based leather in in three colours – Black, Jade and Raspberry, and premium leather options in in Ruby and Walnut starting from AU$59.95.

If you’ve been holding off ordering a new Kindle waiting for colour displays at the right price, this is it. The Kindle Colorsoft is available for purchase from today through Amazon.com.au, as well as retailers including JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks for AU$399, with 16GB of storage. You can get the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is available at AU$449, with 32GB of storage. All new Kindle purchases come with three months of Kindle Unlimited.
