Australian pricing announced and pre-orders open for ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X

After announcing the new ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X gaming handhelds back in July, ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced that pre-orders are now open in Australia, and select markets around the world. 

Price and Availability

Launching in Australia on October 16th, the ROG Xbox Ally will cost $999 AUD while the ROG Xbox Ally X will cost $1,599 AUD.

JB Hifi has picked up an exclusive on the ROG Xbox Ally X, and will be the only retailer selling both models, while the more budget friendly ROG Xbox Ally will be available from the usual retailers, Harvey Norman, Big W, Officeworks, The Good Guys, EB Games and The Gamesmen with ASUS’ other supply chain partners also stocking it, including Centre Com, Scorptec, JW, PLE, Computer Alliance and MWave.

What’s the difference?

The new ROG XBox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X share similar designs, with a 7”, FullHD resolution display that offers fast 120Hz refresh. They also include the iconic Xbox Button, and more contoured grips inline with Microsoft’s Series controllers. 

It’s under the hood we start to see some differences, with the base model ROG Xbox Ally, aimed at casual players, anywhere up to avid enthusiasts, will be available in white and is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor  with 16GB RAM, 512GB M.2 2280 SSD and 60Wh battery .

The ROG Xbox Ally X on the other hand is designed for a premium, high-performance experience, and will launch in Black. The handheld is powered by the more powerful AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor and comes with 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, and a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD, with a larger 80Wh battery.

What can it play?

The new ROG XBox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will be able to play a load games. It’s based on Windows 11, so you’ll have full access to your gaming libraries like Steam and GOG, as well as being able to play your Xbox games under the Xbox Play Anywhere feature, streaming games from your Xbox, or directly from the cloud. 

Microsoft has made it a little easier to check compatibility, launching badges for games that are  “Handheld Optimized” or “Mostly Compatible”, giving you an insight to if a game is ready to go on these new mobile devices, or need a little tweaking. 

The ROG XBox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will both feature an Xbox full screen experience to minimise fussing around with games, letting you get to your games ASAP.
