Help your muscles heal as well as relax with the Renpho Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun

Massage guns are available everywhere these days and the use of heating and cooling in the recovery and injury healing process has been used for a long time so it is strange that it has taken this long for the two to be combined.

Renpho aren’t the first to do it with the Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun but there are very few on the market but they have done it extremely well with an attachment with its own power and button to easily switch from heat to cool.

What is it?

The Renpho Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun that arrives with five attachments, one of which is an adjustable temperature heating and cooling massage attachment, five different speeds and the ability to use an app to aid your recovery or warm up with it.

With speeds of up to 3200rpm it certainly can give your muscles a good pounding if that is what is required.  At the same time it is also relatively quiet so that you can use it while watching the TV without having to turn the volume up.

The Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun also features a travel case that securely fits all the massage heads.

What do you use it for?

Hot and cold therapy is ideal for healing from injuries, acute and chronic with literature evenly dividied between the two of which is best at any particular time.  The heat increases blood flow to aid healing but the cold reduces inflammation to prevent injuries getting worse.

This is where the Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun can come in handy.  Injury healing, with the ability to apply heat/cooling and percussion to an injured area to aid healing.  You can apply heating and cooling alternately with some recommending this for injury healing.  The range of heating and cooling is impressive with up to 47°C heat, down to 10°C cooling.

Even if you don’t have any injuries, the heat from the Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun can help.  Prior to any exercise you can use it to warn up your muscles with the heat/percussion combination – I’ve had some shoulder issues recently so have been using it to warm my shoulders before each workout and it has been amazing, decreasing any pain and allowing the shoulders to be warmed up and supple before starting any workout.

Some have suggested using the cooling post workout but unless you have an injury you need to decrease inflammation to after a workout I’m not sure I see the benefit of that given that the increased blood flow to muscles post workout is great for re-glycogenation and protein uptake to build muscle.

Cool
Cool

As you may have guessed from above the heating and cooling portion of the Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun make the gun extremely versatile.  Add in the various attachments such as the standard ball head attachment, the paraspinal U-shaped attachment, the single bullet head attachment and the four finger crescent head attachment and you have every muscle and use-case covered.  That percussion applied to muscles is great for helping to break up knots, relieving tension and pain.

How is it to use?

The power is significant, so much so that I had it on level 2 or 3 most of the time, not requiring the faster 4 or 5 levels.

The version of the Renpho Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun we reviewed is compatible with the Renpho Health app on your app store and connects to it via Bluetooth.  It allows you to time how long you are using the gun for and also can be used to run an automatic program where it upcycles the speed of the gun at a certain time interval.

The app also includes ‘courses’ that show videos of how to relax or warm up specific muscle groups.  This is handy for treating yourself or someone else if you aren’t entirely sure how or which muscles to target.

The version of the Renpho Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun you get from Amazon does NOT have this app compatibility – not sure why, but it’s basically the same gun (slightly different heat-cool range), just without Bluetooth support for the app.  Note that the Amazon version is the Active, not the Active+.

Battery life

The battery is 2500 mAh and is meant to provide up to 4-5 hours of runtime, but I found it to be less than that —more like 2 hours at most —when using the heat function as hot as possible.  The battery does support fast charging (up to 15W PD) using a USB-C cable (included), so you can charge it fully in around an hour or so.

The RENPHO Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun delivers impressive percussion massage for all your tired and tight muscles along with healing heat and cold options. This heating and cooling head offers varying temperatures and can be used with or without the Renpho app.

If you are looking not just to keep your muscles healthy long term, but also to heal muscular injuries or relieve muscle pain, then this is the massage gun for you.

The RENPHO Active+ Thermacool Massage Gun with Bluetooth and smartphone app control is available now for 0 from Renpho.au and the non-Bluetooth version from Amazon.com.au for 0. This would make a great Christmas present for the fitness0minded person in your life.
