I fly a lot. I need information about my flight, the gate I’m headed to, the plane I’m getting on, any boarding or delay notifications and of course baggage claim info. I get all of that from an app called Flighty and it is the first app I install on any phone I’m using. Obsessed.
It’s also quite spectacular simply as a data nerd. I can see how many flights I’ve taken, how many Km i’ve travelled and even see if I’ve flown on this particular plane before.
Like Spotify, Google, Apple Music and so many other services, Flighty is now releasing a snapshot of the year just gone, which they call the Flighty Global Passport report.
This report is similar to a report any flighty user can get at any time showing their own flight stats – I’ll share mine shortly, except it’s looking at the data from all users using the Flighty app.
Globally, Flighty users took 22 million flights, travelling 54 million kilometers and flying up in the air for a cumulative 78 million hours!
One of the most tracked bits of information relates to delays.
You see, because flighty knows what flight you’re on, what time it was scheduled and they track (because they notify users) any delays as well as actual boarding and taxi times, Flighty knows better than anyone which airlines are doing badly when it comes to delays!
Turns out, it’s Ryanair – 29% of their flights are delayed. Ouch. Air France is the next worse with another Euro low-cost carrier easyJet up in third place.
But for Aussies, the reputation of Qantas is on the line, as it takes 6th place among the most delayed airlines with 26% of their flights delayed for Flighty users. Not a great look!
Oh, and if you’re in a hurry to catch your connecting flight it turns out that delays on the ground keep us waiting on board even after landing. On Average 14 minutes per flight!
The common causes for these delays, are the Gate not being ready, congested Taxiway, weather, and equipment delays.
Personally, it’s been a year!
I spent 14 days ON PLANES – that’s two weeks up in the air!
Can’t recommend Flighty enough – if you’re a traveller, get on it.
Sadly, only available on iPhone!
Plus – all these features which will make you the person on the plane who knows more than everyone else about what’s going on – and trust me, you’ll know the baggage carousel before they even announce it.
