Dyson launches a self-emptying vacuum, but you can’t get the auto-empty dock yet?

Dyson has announced with fanfare the launch of their first ever self-emptying cordless stick vacuum. It’s the Dyson V10 Konical which will be compatible with the new Dyson Auto-empty Dok (that’s how they spell it) – but there’s a catch.

Don’t get too excited, the Auto-empty Dok isn’t available in Australia yet, and the best Dyson can tell you is it will be available “Later this year”. So, you’re doing your own emptying until then.

The new V10 Konical has a De-tangling conical head and the bright green floor light to show you the normally invisible dust on your floor.

When the docking station becomes available, placing the V10 Konical in the base will empty the dust bin and charge the device ready for your next clean.

Dyson say “Emptying a vacuum bin is messy and inconvenient. Dust escapes, allergens linger, and it interrupts the cleaning process. We engineered a dock that does it for you, automatically and hygienically. It charges your machine, stores your tools, and seals away dust for up to two months. It’s a simple idea, but it solves a real frustration.”

But let’s be honest, this is hardly new – Samsung has had this for ages on their Jet range, and many other do too.

However, it’s a strong catch-up from Dyson who once dominated the stick vacuum market, but in recent years have had some stiff competition from big brands and new brands too.
